Happy Thanksgiving
I’ve always been intrigued by the difference of the value of Thanksgiving in Canada and the US.
Of course I cannot speak for the all Canadian outside the province of Quebec, but here, Thanksgiving is only a holiday like another, a day out of work, and I think it’s kind of sad when I see how our US neighbors care for this holiday compared to us… It’s almost equivalent and even surpasses Christmas in some way.
Why do we attach less importance to this day here?
I personally think it is because of our… How can I say this… Our lack of belief in what God is doing for us every day of our life, even in our darkest days.
But sometimes I was thinking: “What was there before the big bang, before the universe was created?” For those who don’t know me personally, I could be seen like a huge believer in God. Not at all, let me explain!
Since I stopped going to church at around 14 years old, and before that I was going because my parents forced me to. So since ever, I’ve considered myself as a non-believer in any greater spiritual power. My belief was that the universe was created with a big bang, and then the galaxies, suns, and planets were created, and then life appeared out of a primordial soup of complex molecules in our oceans.
In any case, something happened in my life, a turning point, a new path as I explained yesterday, and several things and believes are beginning to change.
DON’T RUN! I’m not going to talk about some sort of cult or religion, I am only talking about “FAITH”.
I’m talking about having faith in me, in other people, faith in things that I cannot see with your own eyes.
Ok, let’s go back to Thanksgiving. 🙂
Even as a non-believer, I was surprised to hear American’s “God Bless…” I never heard this here.
So I think that the main difference betweenCanadaand US is belief. Maybe this variation in evolution is caused by the difference between Catholicism and Protestantism, but I won’t go into this subject right now, I have a great deal of learning on this.
Originally, Thanksgiving was an occasion of celebrating successful harvests. Now, I think it is simply to be thankful God is helping us, guiding us and using us for a greater purpose. Even if He puts obstacles and challenges in your life, remember it is with struggles that you learn and grow the most.
Lastly, it is great to see the spirit of “gratefulness” spreads throughout many houses on this day, but I wonder why we have to wait for permission from a calendar before giving thanks. Giving thanks should be a way to live your life, not just a day in your life.
William A. Ward said, “God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say “thank you”?”
To all my fellow Americans, I hope you and your families have an excellent Thanksgiving.
God Bless 🙂
